A video about our land
The project is based on the poignant words found in Chéri Jubinville’s poem, “My First Count”, an ode to the beauty of nature and a call to waking up to see the ecological disaster caused by colonialism. The typographical video takes some lines of this manifesto and illustrates the wonders of nature within the words by viscerally using what it is made of; berries, flesh, feathers, or bark, with precision and colourfulness. The dark background and the incessant rhythm of Tanya Tangaq’s piece, “Uja” from her album "Animism", add an engaging and serious atmosphere where the theme of “savageries” is reconsidered through the play between blacks and whites. The video is aiming to show the tragedy of the ideological shift that occurred with colonialism and has transformed the way we look at our land, home of natural riches.
